NDLEA has appointed Dr. Akin Fagbemi as Ambassador.
9Janewshub.com.ng reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has on Wednesday, appointed the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Mogaji Akin Fagbemi as its Ambassador in the state.
Fagbemi was decorated by the Oyo State Commander of the anti-narcotics agency, Commander Abdullahi Saheed, who was on a courtesy visit to the OYRTMA boss in his office at the agency’s operational headquarters of the agency, situated at Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.
Commander Saeed maintained that “OYRTMA is a unique agency of the Oyo State Government whose operational activities are critical to the progress and realization of the core mandates of the NDLEA.”
Stressing further, Commander Abdullahi, lauded the state government under Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for empowering OYRTMA to achieve the lofty heights it has attained amidst comity of road transport agencies across the country.
He said: “The efficacy of OYRTMA is being felt across the State and we are here specifically here to further consolidate the relationship between our two agencies.”
“Apparently, since taking over the mantle of leadership in the Oyo State Command of the NDLEA, I have observed that the most rampant transportation means for drug traffickers and abusers of substances such as cocaine, heroin etc. is the road and we are aware of the effectiveness and efficiency of OYRTMA in managing the road transportation system in the State.”
“This is why we have come to seek collaborations on intelligence gathering and information sharing between the two agencies particularly as several arrests has been made of some road transport workers aiding and trafficking these dangerous drugs.”
He added that most road traffic crashes in the country occur as a result of drivers who are under the direct influence of drug and substance abuse.
“Therefore, to tame this ugly trend, I want to on behalf of the Director General of the NDLEA, Major General Buba Marwa, decorate you, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi Ph.D as Ambassador of NDLEA in Oyo State to the glory of God and for the benefit of mankind,” the NDLEA boss concluded
While responding, the OYRTMA boss, Fagbemi, expressed appreciation to the NDLEA for the great honour and assured of the continuous readiness of the agency to collaborate NDLEA in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
This, he said, would help reduce accident on the roads as well as create a tranquil and serene environment where economic and social activities can thrive in tandem with the four cardinal objectives of the governor as captured in the 2019-2023 Oyo State Roadmap to Accelerated Development.”
“This gesture showcased the fact that His Excellency, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde is doing very well. His governance in Oyo State has reflected in our activities, hence, they count us to be part of what NDLEA is doing. You kown, NDLEA has got a new DG and they have had a new strategy.”
“Across the state’s, they have been having ambassadors and today, we are given this opportunity as the ambassador for NDLEA in Oyo State.”
As exactly, we will do what we are supposed to do. We will intensify our efforts in ensuring we rid the state of drug trafficking and every other assignment with the mandate of the NDLEA,” Fagbemi assured.
