Oyo State Government has pledges Adequate Support for the NSCDC.
9Janewshub.com.ng reports that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has on Tuesday promised unflitching support to the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to further ensure safety of lives and properties of both residents and citizens of the state.
Makinde speaking through the Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Mojeed Mogbonjubola at the NSCDC Oyo State Command Headquaters Agodi Ibadan during the Passing Out Parade of the Female Armed Squad maintained that his administration will continue to support the NSCDC to further boost security architecture of the state.
Hon. Mojeed Mogbonjubola, however congratulated the Female Armed Squad for being the first Armed Squad from the state NSCDC Command.
He said, “I was briefed that this is the first this is happening on Oyo State, I want to congratulates all the squad, the combatant, brave and gallant women that have the privileged of setting the pace, today they have make history and I congratulate you the gallant female squad of the NSCDC.
“So much has been invested in you and I was carried away with all your parades and actions, and I look at it that what a man can do, women are getting to do it better, at this critical time of insecurity in the nation, not exempting Oyo State, we need this squad like never before, we need them like yesterday, what they paraded here today is bravery and I can say Oyo State is part of you and I known Nigeria will be proud of you, I was told that the head of the squad that came from Abuja has to take one of you back to Abuja with her, and that’s what emulating, I say congratulations to NSCDC, congratulations to Nigeria.
“As we all know that security is one of the four cardinal agenda of Oyo State government, I’m here representing the the governor today to say, we will keep supporting the NSCDC, we will keep supporting the female Armed Squad of the Civil Defence, please keep doing it, keep saving us, keep bringing peace to Oyo State, keep extending peace to Nigeria as whole. Mogbonjubola said.
The newly trained 75 Female Armed Squad during their Passing Out Parade displayed various combat skills such assembling and disassembling of fire arms, show of strength, fire arms drillings, match passes among others.
Earlier in his address, the Commandant General of NSCDC Ahmed Abubakar Audi who was ably represented by the Assistant Commandant General.of the Corps, Shem Obafaiye the Zonal Commandant of Corps explained that Nigeria at a time like this need an Amazon.
He said, the Amazon were the women squad that fought in Diahome in those days, stressing that the Civil Defence has introduced the Amazon into Nigeria, noted that if this is only thing we have achieved, I believe is enough for the civil defence existence.
“The Commandant General has asked me to appreciate you, that he’s hoping so much in you, to whom much is given, much is expected, this time of general insecurity in the country, in diverse ways, in this time of gender violence in the country, in various ways, we need security to battle the situations as they arises, therefore the commandants general has directed me to tell you that we’ve invested in you and we expected much from you.
“However, he has asked me to tell you that you are coming into this country to teach the general populace, handle weapons with civility, you know the rules of engagement, carrying weapon doesn’t mean you should go out there and cause trouble, if maintaining peace at home in the country belongs to women, then you should know that what you just enrolled for now is to further enhancement of peace in the country, while wishing you the best, I’m expecting high dividends from you, I wish you God guidance and best of luck in life. He said.
In his address, the State Commandant, Adaralewa Michael stressed that the inauguration of the Female Armed Squad is one of the transformational programmes of the 3rd substantive Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, with his mission to regig, revamp, reinvigorate and reposition the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps is the organization’s response to the plethora of security challenges facing the country which Oyo State is not left out.
Commandant Adaralewa further maintained that the Commandant General of the Corps has directed and committed resources for the replication of the female Combatant Squad, he noted that the Squad was first inaugurated at the national headquarters in the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory to serve as tactical swift response squad to provide security for schools, across the federation and also to assist in stem the tide of Kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other criminalities in every society they are spread to.
He said, Six months ago, some female personnel of the Command were selected from different department such as the Armed Squad Unit, Divisional Desk offices for this task after they had undergone forensic psychology test. I must give credit to the training department which has tutored, transformed and nurtured these personnel to become combatant, resilient, adaptive, resourceful, and deployable under and under any imaginable condition and skilled in engaging their feminine advantage to neutralize any threat to security whenever and wherever in Oyo State.
