Oke Ogun people has kicked against alleged imposition of candidate for Oyo North Senatorial District.

The people of Oke Ogun have rejected any form of imposition from any quarters, saying it is the right time for them to produce the next senator that will be representing the interest of the people of Oyo North Senatorial District at the red chamber. 

9Janewshub.com.ng reports that the Oke Ogun people comprising youths, artisans, farmers, chiefs, elders, some senatorial aspirants of All Progressive Congress (APC), among others on Saturday through a forum organised by the youths of the axis converged in a popular event hall in Saki Town to express their views on the need for their son or daughter to represent the people of Oyo North Senatorial District at the Senate.

Oke Ogun axis of Oyo state has no fewer than ten local government areas out of the 13 local government areas of Oyo North Senatorial District, while Ogbomoso has three local government areas.

The further break down of Oke Ogun local government are Atisbo, Irepo, Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Kajola, Orelope, Olorunsogo, Saki West and Saki East local government areas, while Ogbomoso’s three local government include Ori-Ire local government, Ogbomoso South and North local government areas.

The APC senatorial aspirants present at the event that was organized by the Oke Ogun Indigenous Youths Solidarity Forum were the current House of Representative member, Hon. Shina Peller, Hon. Saheed Adedayo Alaran, Mrs. Adeola Adeboyin, Chief Olusola Ogunbode.

In his address, a member of the green chamber representing the people of Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola and Iwajowa, Hon. Shina Peller, maintained that the Oke Ogun people are very peaceful, accommodating and loving  people.

He said, “the people of Oke Ogun understand that we have to be our brother’s keeper and we understand that we have to worship God through our fellow and if you look at Oyo North Senatorial District you see that it is an area that occupied 13 local government areas and we have three local government from Ogbomoso which are Ogbomoso South, Ogbomoso North and Oriire Local Government and from this end which is second zone is where we have Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Atisbo, Orelope, Saki East, Saki West, and so on, and we really understand that there must be peaceful coexistence within ourselves and that is why we are always been into support of our brothers from Ogbomoso.

“The present Senator that is representing the zone is from Ogbomoso and in the history of Oke Ogun there has never been a senator that has done it twice, so when he wanted the second term in the name of continuity and in the name of peaceful coexistence, we give him the support, because we are very peaceful people and loving people and we have always give necessary support whenever they needed it, but this time around it is the time to stand up and defend the integrity of our land we have vibrant people that we believe they are able to bring the government closer to the people and the dividend of democracy to our people and the time has come for us to rise to that challenge and defend Oke Ogun.” Peller said.

Peller who used the occasion to present a brand new wheel chair to a physically challenged student of Oke Ogun Polytechnic , Kabiru Salawudeen, from Iwajowa also noted that the people have now resolved to occupy the Oyo North Senatorial seat come 2023, the lawmaker listed some of the natural endowment the zone is blessed with, stating that God created Oke Ogun with abundant human and natural resources.

He said ” Oke Ogun occupies over 60 percent of arable land of Oyo state, making the zone the food basket of the state but it is very unfortunate that the zone is most marginalized. Now ,the time has come to occupy its rightful place.

“It is very important for us to understand the principal of equity, fairness and justice for us to promote peace, I’m the Ayedero of Yorubaland and I was coronated with that Chieftaincy title to be a peace promoter and for us to promote peace we must understand that there must be fairness, there must be equity and justice, and that is exactly what our people are crying for.” Peller said.

Addressing the gathering, a former local government boss, Hon. Saheed Alaran also called on the people of the zone to ensure that they vote massively for Oke Ogun candidate, said the interest of Oke Ogun must come first above personal interest.

He noted that the interest of Oke Ogun must come first above personal interest, noting that Oke Ogun are more qualified, with enough competent people to be the next senator.

Some of the youths that spoke at the event also said that it has been long the people of Oke Ogun have been exercising patience allowing Ogbomoso zone with three local governments to produce senator for the zone, but now, we are saying “enough is enough “.

Adeboyin Adeola in her address maintained that this is not the first time that Oke Ogun people have been agitating to be a Senator, she said most of here in Oke Ogun are technocrats and we felt let us just face our businesses without minding leadership, but personally I have a called for leadership because I have what it entails having lead, served and worked for a period twenty seven years in management I felt I have what it entails to be a Senator.

Chief Olusola Ogunbode in his contributions said, “the Oke Ogun people have always believe in the party politics too much to the point that whatever our party say they want to do we just fall in line and this has been responsible for sidelining our people here at Oke Ogun axis of the Oyo North Senatorial District, and we believe that time has come for all of us to rise up and fight for justice and equity for Oke Ogun people.
