Lieutenant General Tukur Yussuf Buratai has dedicated his new Chieftaincy title to his family, and Nigerian Army.
9Janewshub.com.ng reports that the Former Chief of Army Staff, who doubles as the Ambassador to Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has called on Nigerians to embrace unity of purpose to move the country forward.
General Buratai speaking with newsmen at the Palace of Okere of Saki shortly after being conferred with the Honorary Traditional Title as Jagunmolu of Saki kingdom expressed that Unity is key to Nigeria mutual coexistence.
Buratai was honoured alongside Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun who was confered with Akinrogun of Saki kingdom.
Buratai in his words said, “Unity is key to our coexistence, unity is key to development, because if there is disunity it means there is likely going to be conflict, distrust, mistrust and as well acrimony, but if there is unity we believe the future of Nigeria is good, there will be unity of purpose for the progress of the country, everyone must accommodate one another irrespective of their religion, tribes and political affiliations.
Speaking on how he felt being honoured with the Chieftaincy title from the south-west region of the country, the Ambassador to Republic of Benin said, “I feel highly honoured and I appreciate His Royal Majesty, the Okere of Saki kingdom, I feel highly great that he has identified with the service that we have provided for our nation and of course to humanity.
While speaking further on the importance of unity in country, the former Chief of Army Staff said, “this honorary traditional title of Jagunmolu of Saki kingdom is a sign that Nigerian is one, is a symbol of unity that shows that wherever you’re coming from you are recognize for what you have done, service to the country, service to humanity.
The elated Buratai however dedicated his honorary traditional title to good Nigerians. He said, “I see this as a great honour to me in person, to my family, to my community, to the Nigerian Army which I served as Chief of Army staff and which I retired honourably, and to all peace loving Nigerians that are fighting for the unity and peaceful coexistence of our dear nation Nigeria.
Buratai in his message to Nigerians said, “I want other Nigerians to emulate the good people of Saki for honouring me with this honorary traditional title, this will go a long way in restoring our values and traditions and it will further maintained peaceful coexistence and unity of purpose we need for our country to move forward.
He also commended Col. Gbenga Adegbola for facilitating the Chieftaincy title and applauded him for his commitment to the development of his home town and the country at large.
Olowu of Owu kuta, Oba Hammed Adekunle Oyelude, in his address advised parents to warm their children to shun political thuggery and violence especially as electioneering period approaches.
Olowu of Owu Kuta also make use of the occasion highlighting the roles of traditional rulers in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the society.
He said, “Before the electioneering period, Its has been the main duty of the traditional rulers to foster peace armony our subjects and we will continue to talk to our subjects to live by the rules, we are ensuring that there is peace in our different towns. We do engaged parents to always talk to their children on thw need for them to shun violence during the election.”
The highly refered monarch also commended Okere of Saki for honouring the former Chief of Army Staff and his colleagues in the army with the Chieftaincy title, he said, “What is happening here today is a celebration of excellence, is a celebration of highly distribalise Nigerian, the former Chief of Army staff and current Ambassador to Republic of Benin, Ambassador Tukur Bratai, Saki people and it’s environ are appreciating this illustrious Nigerian who is a gift to mankind.”
Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Oyedepo in his words said, ‘I feel great honouring these distinguished Nigerians, I feel honoured by honouring them, because they are people of honour and my message to everyone over there especially the public office holders is that they should be good and also be God fearing in whatever they are doing while in office, because whatever they do while in office is what people will be saying after they leave such office, these gentlemen here we’re honoured based on their antecedents while they were in office.”
Traditional rulers present at the event are Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, the Elekuro of Ekuro Ede, Oba Babalola Olalekan Azeez, the Olu Owode Ede, Oba Oyedepo Nureni, Alamadu of Ago Amodu, HRH, Oba Olaoye Johnson Akinloye, Onisanbo of Ogbooro Land, Alageere of Ago Are, Oba Azeez Uthman Oyetunde, among others.
On the entourage of the former Chief of Army Staff are the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigeria Army, Man. General Gold Chubuisi, and other top military officers.
